Alcohol has been counted among the group of drugs known as depressants, whose function is retarding vital functions; this leads to unsteadiness in movement, failure to respond swiftly, slurred speech, and distorted perceptions. With regard to the way it impacts the human mind, alcohol is best construed as a substance which decreases an individual's capability of rational thought and garbles his/her judgment. While it is grouped under depressants, the quantity of alcohol ingested helps determine the kind of impact. The majority of individuals consume alcohol for its stimulating impact (e.g., a glass of wine for “loosening up.”) However, if an individual drinks a greater quantity than his/her body is able to handle, he/she begins experiencing its depressant effect, manifesting as loss of control and balance, or feeling “stupid”.

The blues is described as a uniquely African American musical tradition, combining folk music, traditional work songs once sun by slaves, jazz, and other musical traditions to describe both personal suffering and to create an oral history of all individuals who have sung it. In August Wilson’s 1986 play The Piano Lesson, an heirloom piano comes to embody the blues tradition for its central protagonists Boy Willie and his sister Berniece. Whether to transform the piano into money, as Boy Willie wishes to do, or to save it, becomes symbolic of the role of the blues in African American history and society. The blues, like the piano itself, is problematic because of its ties to the history of slavery, but it cannot be nor should not be eradicated, given the loss this will create for the community.

Stan Lee created many comic book characters and was the person behind Marvel Comics for many years. He was born as Stanley Lieber on December 28, 1922 in New York City. He worked for Timely Comics starting in 1939, and that company became Marvel Comics. Stan Lee was a writer there, and worked with artist Jack Kirby. Stan Lee married his wife Joan in 1947, and they were married for 70 years until she died in 2017. They had two daughters, but one died three days after being born. They moved in 1981 to California.
