Who Was Stan Lee

Stan Lee created many comic book characters and was the person behind Marvel Comics for many years. He was born as Stanley Lieber on December 28, 1922 in New York City. He worked for Timely Comics starting in 1939, and that company became Marvel Comics. Stan Lee was a writer there, and worked with artist Jack Kirby. Stan Lee married his wife Joan in 1947, and they were married for 70 years until she died in 2017. They had two daughters, but one died three days after being born. They moved in 1981 to California.

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby began to create characters and when the company wanted them to come up with something to rival DC Comics’ Justice League, that’s when they came up with the Fantastic Four, which was their first big hit. Lee created many other famous superheroes for Marvel Comics, including Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther and the Incredible Hulk. The first was the Fantastic Four in 1961, and the others were also created in the years that came after that. As the writer, Lee created superheroes that had human characteristics, and this made them some of the most popular and enduring superheroes of all time, because audiences found them more relatable.

Stan Lee then was promoted and eventually was in charge of all of Marvel Comics. He has appeared in many Marvel films, and the last one was Black Panther. He continued to be highly influential in the company and among all comic book fans. Stan Lee died in 2018 in Los Angeles, and he was 95 years old. His legacy continues today as many of his characters still have best-selling comic books and movies.
