...Performance management Introduction
The Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) is an agency within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and its purpose is to provide financial aid as well as other kinds of assistance to veterans in need, to their families or to their survivors as the case may be. Some of the various kinds of assistance include compensation and pension pay, rehabilitation assistance, support with finding employment, assistance with furthering educational opportunities, obtaining a home loan, and obtaining life insurance. The VBA was set up to facilitate the VA in its mission to care for soldiers and the families of soldiers—to do right by those who had put their lives on the line and in some cases sacrificed them for the good of the country. This paper will describe the strategic goals of the VBA and the social needs it addresses, evaluate the external support the organization relies upon; assess the……

...Performance management 1. Best practices and compliance with recruitment laws
The first step towards filling the request will be to review the various H.R. best practices and compliance to minimize an employee lawsuit's risk. The review will be done on issues such as hiring, wage requirements, and employee classification. To ensure this, the H.R. department will establish a strategy (assuming none exists at the moment) for regulatory reviewing and updating compliance procedures and labor laws that are constantly changing (Breaugh, 2016). The suggested strategy is to have one of the H.R. department staff members as a "point person" to research and update compliance policies.
To ensure hiring and employee compliance for the current post, the H.R. department will first seek to ensure there cannot be any discrimination in the process based on religion, race, color, age, sex, sexual orientation, disability, and ethnicity (Patterson & Zibarras, 2018). To achieve this, the recruitment process……

...Performance management Sustainability
Literature Review
The Starbucks' Social Responsibility & Sustainability (2017) outlines the company's plan for each on several fronts. These are complex issues, and they receive some complexity in their treatment. Starbucks has four main areas of focus: community, ethical sourcing, environment, and diversity. Roughly, community and diversity would fall into the category of social responsibility, as these cover community service, youth action, the Starbucks Foundation, the Ethos Water Fund, and the company's diversity plan. On the sustainability front, there is the ethics of coffee, tea, cocoa and farmer support and this combines with water, energy, green building and climate change. The company's marketing of its approach contains a lot of high level discussion, but there are opportunities to take a deeper dive into specific initiatives and metrics. A lot of what Starbucks does with its approach focuses on things that matter most to the company (its supply chain, for……

...Performance management How to be a Great Leader
Effective leadership and a solid corporate culture are absolutely essential to organizational success. Leaders are like the captains of a ship while the corporate culture is like the sea through which the ship navigates. A good captain will make sure the shipmates understand the mission and have the right spirit to see it through. A good culture will allow for smooth sailing—and, of course, a bad culture will be like sailing through a hurricane or typhoon. Good leaders will help to create a good culture that empowers workers and fosters success; bad leaders will inevitably foster a bad culture that undermines the organization’s mission (Schyns & Schilling, 2013). This paper will discuss what matters most when leading and creating a positive culture.
No organization is ever without conflict. When it comes to managing conflict, one of the most important leadership traits a leader can……

...Performance management Ethics of Clandestine Intelligence Operations
Introduction
One of the most common yet least understood methods of operations in the art of statecraft is the clandestine operation (Sheldon 1997). Though popularized in pulp fiction and film, such as the James Bond series franchise and numerous other spy thrillers, clandestine operations remain relatively unknown in the public consciousness—and when they are discussed it is generally with distaste, distrust and vilification (Sheldon 1997). Yet as Sheldon (1997) shows, clandestine operations are not new or unique to the modern world and in fact ancient Rome used them whenever military operations were impractical. Thus, “political influence operations, seeding, propaganda, political patronage, safe havens, political assassination, and paramilitary operations” can all be traced back more or less to similar operations implemented by the ancient Romans (Sheldon 1997, 299). Today, there are many different facets to clandestine operations, and many agencies that use them—from the CIA to……
