Abstract
This grant proposal seeks funds to support the development of the Arabic Language and Culture Course. This course will provide opportunities for students to further enhance their Arabic language skills outside the class setting. The target audience is Intermediate Arabic learners who have completed at least two Arabic courses. The primary goals of this proposed course include: preparing students to communicate effectively in Arabic.
Project Description
Rationale
This theme of Hookah Lounges enables me as an instructor to incorporate Arabic Culture concurrently with developing the linguistic skills of listening, understanding, speaking, reading, and writing. Hookah Lounges in Dearborn incorporate such elements as traditional Arabic décor and Arabic music. They are regarded by many as a novel and chic way to socialize and embrace multiculturalism. The reason I chose Dearborn is that it has the biggest population of Arabs in the US.……

...Miscellaneous Music Therapy and Aging
Summary
Grief, pain, and distress can become unbearable for the bereaved although death is an experience that every individual goes through. Many therapeutic interventions have been developed to help the bereaved cope with death including music therapy interventions. These interventions have shown positive impacts on the cognitive and emotional well-being of the bereaved and older adults with terminal conditions or under hospice care. However, the impact of these interventions on the aging process remains unknown and understudied. The proposed study will look at the effect of music therapy interventions on aging, especially on the frailties brought by old age. The scope of the proposed research is to look at the link between music therapy interventions and the quality of life of elderly people without any chronic or terminal conditions.
This study is expected to provide insights on how to cope or deal with frailties of old……

...Miscellaneous Comparative cultures: Portugal
Section I: Concrete Experience
I have been attracted to Portugal for most of my life, because I have some Portuguese ancestry. I was curious, for example, about how much of the culture of family has been influenced by this background, and what elements. But as I got older I also started just to take an interest in the country in general. I would cheer for Portugal at the World Cup and things like that, for example, when I don’t know if I had any reason to. I started to become quite curious about this place that was on one hand a fairly normal Western country that seemed like it would be familiar in many respects to my own life, but on the other hand also seemed to be quite a bit different – slower pace of life, high family orientation, less work-obsessed than one might normally find……

...Miscellaneous Policy on Shift Swapping
Shift swapping is a common practice in modern workplaces both in the public and private sectors. Organizations including federal agencies have established shift swapping policies through which employees engage in shift swap. This practice has positive impacts as it enhances employee retention and performance. Generally, shift swapping provides a framework for hourly workers to shift their working hours in order to response to pressing issues such as family responsibilities (Disselkamp, 2013). In addition to enhancing employee retention and performance, shift swapping also contributes to workplace flexibility. For this federal agency, shift swapping is a common practice for part- and full-time employees. However, some full-time employees have abused the policy, which has resulted in significant negative impacts such as the recent incident of a part-time employee who was injured at the workplace following shift swap. This report examines the timecard scandal and abuse of the agency’s shift……

...Miscellaneous Cybercrime how to defend against social engineering
There are several attack vectors for cybercriminals, which means that people need to have an equal number or more of ways to defend these attacks. Social engineering is one tactic, and it works in part because the attackers essentially bypass formal defenses such as firewalls or antivirus. Instead, social engineering is “the art of exploiting the human flaws to achieve a malicious objective” (Breda, Barbosa & Morais, 2017). A typical social engineering attack would be a phishing scam, but others would include hackers tricking people into providing information, which is then used against them (Kaspersky, 2020).
Protecting personal information online where social engineering attacks are concerned means training people in how social engineering attacks work, what the attackers need you to do, and how to spot typical scams. This training can often be done with courses, or online, and many security providers offer……

...Miscellaneous Simple IRA and Qualified Plans
1. A simple IRA has both advantages and disadvantages when compared to a qualified plan like a 401K. Both are tax-deferred savings accounts, but where the differences lay could matter for a company like 3P. These two types of plan are mutually exclusive – an employer cannot have both at the same time (Appleby, 2019).
However, with a simple 401K the employer could have another plan for employees who aren’t covered by the 401K, which would typically be employees who earn less than $5000 per year. This may not apply to very many people, but could theoretically be one of the differences between the two types of retirement plan. Employees under 21 or who have worked for less than a year may or may not be covered, but there is no age requirement for a simple IRA. If the company has a lot of younger……

Big Splash
Making a big splash to establish a new policy has its risks, but this approach can be advantageous as well. The current situation is that there are only a few volunteers working with the organization regularly and they are facing burnout. So there is a problem that may break soon, and threaten the ability of the organization to do its work. The training seminars are going to be a barrier for those who are already working to continue, and a further barrier to attracting new people to do this work. There is no particular evidence that the seminars are going to solve any problem at all, so I would treat them with some skepticism. This is especially true in that 75% of volunteers are one-offs, and the number of one-offs might drop to near zero if they have to attend the seminars before volunteering.
The advantages……

...Miscellaneous Who Was Stan Lee
Stan Lee created many comic book characters and was the person behind Marvel Comics for many years. He was born as Stanley Lieber on December 28, 1922 in New York City. He worked for Timely Comics starting in 1939, and that company became Marvel Comics. Stan Lee was a writer there, and worked with artist Jack Kirby. Stan Lee married his wife Joan in 1947, and they were married for 70 years until she died in 2017. They had two daughters, but one died three days after being born. They moved in 1981 to California.
Stan Lee and Jack Kirby began to create characters and when the company wanted them to come up with something to rival DC Comics’ Justice League, that’s when they came up with the Fantastic Four, which was their first big hit. Lee created many other famous superheroes for Marvel Comics, including……
Stan Lee then was promoted and eventually was in charge of all of Marvel Comics. He has appeared in many Marvel films, and the last one was Black Panther. He continued to be highly influential in the company and among all comic book fans. Stan Lee died in 2018 in Los Angeles, and he was 95 years old. His legacy continues today as many of his characters still have best-selling comic books and movies.

...Miscellaneous I have experience with quite a few of the different decision-making techniques. Certainly, the rational model is interesting, and utilizes parts of some of the other models, such as cost-benefit analysis. I’ve been involved a little bit with focus groups, used brainstorming, and done variations on cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness. I have less familiarity with some of the other decision-making models that we studied.
I feel that the most valuable is really the cost-benefit, which requires a lot of rational analysis. First, cost-benefit focuses ones efforts. We all know that resources are limited. As individuals we are limited in terms of time and energy. If we are going to expend these resources on something, and we are presented with more options than we can reasonably pursue, then we need to focus on energy on efforts that deliver the highest level of return for us personally, however we choose to define return.……
