Alan is addicted to pornography and masturbation and wants to stop looking at pornography while alone. He has been “hooked” since the age of 14 but has never come close to expiring the same feeling he had when he looked at porn for the first time. He wants to stop his addiction because he feels it is hurting his marriage and he does not want to lose his wife, who knows about his one infidelity as well as his addiction and worries that he might stray again. He has already been divorced once and has a son who does not live with him. Clearly he wants to break free of his addiction but does not know how to do it.

Ms. Ranyevskaya’s behavior in Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard is replete with sentimentality, distraction, and nostalgia. However, lurking beneath her obvious mistakes and foolish dreams is a serious trauma—i.e., the drowning death of her seven year old son and the loss of her husband—leaving her a motherless widow. It is the unexpected entrance of death into her life that could be used to explain or at least indicate the presence of psychological trauma in Ms. Ranyevskaya’s character. It is Anya who tells of these misfortunes: “Father died six years ago, and a month later our little brother, Grisha, drowned. Sweet boy, he was only seven. And Mama couldn’t face it, that’s why she went away, just went away and never looked back” (Chekhov 816). These short stories address different topics and issues ranging from love to sensual examination. The portrayal of the different characters in each of the short stories provide different themes or concepts that can be applicable to the contemporary world. An example of a short story in this book that provides contemporary theme or concept is G-string by Nicola Barker. The main causes of the War of 1812 were found in the Napoleonic Wars in Europe between the French and the British Empires. One of the biggest offenses to American sensibilities at the time was the fact of British impressments—i.e., of Britain forcing Americans to join the Royal Navy to fight Napoleon. Americans had already won their independence from Britain and viewed impressment as dishonorable and unlawful. Impressment was lawful in Britain during war time—but America was no longer under British law, so they considered it an offense. The British needed men to work their ships in the Navy as the war against Napoleon was quite large—so the British were using Americans and pressing them into service. ...College Greek culture is really no different from modern culture. For example in today’s culture, there are various iterations of the super heroes who are popular today—and so readers of comic lore will know different variations on the Bruce Wayne, Bruce Banner, Spiderman, and Superman myths. The same is true for the Greeks. Depending on the author, there were different iterations. Euripides told stories of the Greek gods in a much different vein than did Aeschylus or Homer. The reason for this is that the form of the drama had changed but so too had the culture from the time of Homer to Aeschylus to Euripides. Zeus in Hesiod’s Theogony is different from Zeus in Aeschylus’ Prometheus Bound. The case of Jesse Norman Imeson reveals the possible connections between childhood upbringing, childhood trauma, and psychological characteristics on criminal behavior. While childhood experiences can never be used to condone violence or criminality, understanding the correlation between these factors may help identify early warning signs or risk factors that can then be used in crime prevention strategies. The story of Jesse Imeson gripped Canada because it involved the heinous killing of three individuals in the summer of 2007. Imeson was apprehended at age 22, pled guilty to all three counts of second-degree murder in 2008, and was sentenced to life in prison.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) in its Future of Nursing report stated that there is a need for nurses to be able to practice to the full extent and scope of their education and training (IOM, 2010). In doing so, the belief was that this would increase access to care and provide nurses with the opportunity to practice as they were trained. O’Brien (2003) notes, after all, that the whole reason APRNs began being trained in the latter half of the 20th century was to fill the gap being left behind by primary care physicians as they left their primary care practice to go work for specialized medicine. Today, however, nurses are still bound by regulations that require them in many states to work under the supervision of physicians even though the nurses have the training to treat patients independently of doctors.

...College Lorraine Hansberry looks at a variety of themes in her play Raisin in the Sun. These themes include the challenge of upward mobility for blacks, the problem of inequality—particularly when the Youngers find a home they want to buy in a white neighborhood and are pressed by another home owner there to live somewhere else. Leadership philosophy is one of the most important things an Army leader can bring to a unit because it is the intellectual foundation upon which all action is based. A leader without a philosophy of leadership is like a house built on sand: the first wave that comes along will exhaust it and quickly a succession of waves will reduce it to nothing. Leadership philosophy on the other hand is like a castle built on rock: no wave can wear it down, no assault can penetrate it. As an Army leader, the leadership philosophies that I would bring to a new unit would be 1) to always be honest, as honesty demonstrates transparency and forces one to be accountable for one’s thoughts, words and deeds; 2) to always be supportive no matter the situation; and 3) to inspire my unit to want to achieve its potential……
