Culture is the way of life for a person, society or group of people. It embodies the soul of the community and the heart of a team; it is seen in the way its members express themselves, communicate, think, feel, and believe. It determines what they value and how they honor the principles that guide them. It is different for every society, as Hofstede (1980) showed—and yet there are universal elements to every culture that allow people from different backgrounds to understand one another and rise above their differences to find common ground. Culture shapes the way people, families and communities communicate, perceive the self, think about sexuality, express spirituality, manage stress, cope with less, and deal with death and grief. Introduction
The quarantined life can be voyeuristically experienced via social media or by way of any number of the various videos submitted to Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube or Twitter by celebrities seeking to share with the world how they themselves are getting on during a time of lockdown. Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon interview friends from their computers at home and post them for our entertainment, and generally the overall feeling that one has is that in spite of the “serious” nature of the event, life in quarantine is like one big slumber party, where people stay in their pajamas, talk to friends using Zoom, play games, and while away the time reconnecting with family at home. My short term goal is to be a high school guidance counselor, and I have long term goals of staring a full-service consulting group that helps underprivileged or underserved students access resources and tools for personal and professional development.
As a middle school math teacher, I started to work with students with emotional and behavioral disorders. I started working with students with special needs because of my background in psychology and my interest in working in education. The main purpose of these chapters is to show what creativity is and how it can often be confused for other things—like backwardness, malevolence, or even stupidity. The author uses the example of Thomas Edison as a boy and the mischief he would get up to and thus makes the point that creativity sometimes comes out in different ways and one should not be quick to judge it negatively.

Elder abuse occurs at an alarming rate: around one million incidences a year and perhaps more due to under-reporting and inconsistencies in defining what constitutes elder abuse (Falk, Baigis, Kopac, et al., 2012). Roberto (2016) estimates as many as one in every ten American elders experience some kind of abuse. Unfortunately, “there is no uniform term or agreed-upon definition used among state governments, researchers, health care and service providers, and advocates,” (Roberto, 2016, p. 302). Cultural and religious diversity further impedes the evolution of a comprehensive and universally applicable definition of elder abuse, in spite of the fact that some forms of abuse and certain instances can be considered unequivocal (Saghafi, Bahramnezhad, Poormollamirza, et al., 2019).
