Conflicts of Interest
Conflict of interest emerges when an inividual in power uses their position to exploit situations to their advantage. For instance, if a law firm attempted representing the same couple in a divorce case (Legal Dictionary, 2018). Conflict of interest is a manifestation of structural failures of any society. The practice touches on a wide range of societal elements, including legal, political, and administrative aspects. Once public officers engage in acts of conflict of interest, they lose public trust (Pathranarakul, 2005).
Prosecutors often find themselves in the tight sport of conflict of interest. It is easy to be diverted from the mission to deliver justice when one is a prosecutor because of the ever-conflicting interests, and motivations one is exposed to (Green &Roiphe, 2017). Equine viral arteritis (EVA) is defined by Timoney (2019) in the Merck Veterinary Manual as “an acute, contagious, viral disease of equids caused by equine arteritis virus (EAV).” EAV is also known as Epizootic cellulitis-pinkeye, Equine typhoid, and Rotlaufseuche (Timoney, 2019). The virus can cause symptoms of fever, conjunctivitis, depression, anorexia, nasal discharge, skin rash, subfertility in stallions, and death on young foals and abortion in mares (Price, Rentsch, Burn & Spector, 1998).
The etiology of EVA starts with respiratory exposure: the virus invades the respiratory tract, where it then proceeds to duplicate itself in the tonsillar tissue and nasopharyngeal epithelium, as well as in bronchial macrophages (Timoney, 2019). Cells infected by EVA then transmit the virus to the lymph nodes, resulting in further multiplication of the virus and ultimate release into the carrier’s blood stream. In the study by Lai, Griffin and Babin (2009) entitled “How quality, value, image, and satisfaction create loyalty at a Chinese telecom,” the researchers used an integrative model to assess the relationship between multiple variables related to consumers’ experience of telecoms in China. The researchers conducted a survey of 118 Chinese telecommunications customers and found that service quality has a direct impact on value perception. Value and customer satisfaction, moreover, were found to determine the extent to which the customer would be loyal to the firm. Corporate image perceptions were also found to impact customer satisfaction. The researchers were able to conclude that customer satisfaction and service quality do make a substantial difference in determining whether customers will be retained or not.
