...Diseases Keywords:  corona virus, coronavirus, covid, covid-19

Introduction

The novel coronavirus spreading the COVID 19 disease first appeared in Wuhan, China, in 2019 and quickly spread around the world.  The infectious disease is a new form of a previous severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS) and has led to nationwide lockdowns from the East to the West.  This paper will discuss the signs and symptoms of COVID 19, the cause of the virus, prevention and management strategies currently being employed to help contain and stop the spread of what is now a pandemic, the epidemiology of the disease, and how it has impacted society and culture.

Signs and Symptoms

One of the more mysterious characteristics of COVID 19 is that one can be a carrier of the coronavirus and yet be completely asymptomatic (Chen et al., 2020).  Those who do exhibit signs of infection tend to have flu-like symptoms, especially if……

...Diseases Fruit Science Report
Washington Navel Oranges
Introduction
In as far as appearances are concerned, the Washington Navel orange happens to have a rounded shape and is small to medium in size. One of the many distinguishing features of this particular tree are the white flowers which are scented. The canopy of the tree also appears droopy. In mid winder, the tree supplies seedless oranges that are rather tasty – making this particular variety ideal as either a commercial venture or as a past-time activity in a home orchid setting. It is important to note that the flesh of the fruit is firm and has a distinguishing deep color. The taste of the fruit could also be described as tangy and distinctly sweet. The Washington Navel orange, according to Ramsey and Markell (1920) “originated at Bahia, Brazil, apparently as a bud variation from the Portuguese orange variety, Laranja Selecta” (22). As……

Norovirus

...Diseases Norovirus: Symptoms, Causes and Treatment
Introduction
When wintertime comes, most people are excited to get out, do some holiday shopping, visit relatives, and enjoy the holidays. However, there is always the risk at this time of year of catching a bug—aka a virus. The most common fear is of catching the flu virus, which is why flu vaccines are advertised around every corner at this time. Yet, there is another virus that people do not consider so much—and, unfortunately, it is related to food—which is especially worrisome, given that Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s all fall during the same season when the norovirus is most likely to strike. In fact, given that these social holidays are all packed tight into the winter season festivities, that is one reason the norovirus is so likely to hit so many at this time.
The norovirus is known as the winter vomiting bug or……

Abdominal Pain

Pages: 2 (740 words) Sources: 3 Document Type:Case Study Document #:55817538

...Diseases Severe abdominal pain with bloody diarrhea at a frequency of twenty times per day can be a sign of a serious condition. In fact, the healthcare team should treat the issue as a medical emergency given the possibility of a life-threatening illness (Holtz, Neill & Tarr, 2009). Immediately I would question the patient regarding her medical and family history, including questions related to whether or not this was the first time she has experienced these symptoms. I would also inquire about the patient’s recent travels because it is possible the symptoms point to an infectious disease or a food-borne illness. Whatever the situation, the patient must first replenish the depleted fluids and electrolytes immediately during the administration of diagnostic procedures and patient monitoring. Also, it would be important to find out if the patient is on any medications including antibiotics, and whether or not she was pregnant. Some medications can……

Global Transformations And The Human Condition Global Lives Of Things

Pages: 7 (2248 words) Sources: 5 Document Type:Research Paper Document #:97236568

...Diseases Section 1
The commodity selected for this research paper is coffee. This commodity was chosen owing to the reason that it is one of the most common and most consumed beverages across the globe. In fact, the practice of consuming coffee goes to as far back as the 15th century (Einstein, 2019). As indicated by Ponte (2002), more than 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed on an everyday basis. 54 percent if adults in America consume coffee with an average intake of at least three cups of coffee every day. In totality, it is approximated that the United States spends just about $40 billion on coffee annually. One of the key issues surrounding the consumption of coffee is the health benefits or risks that the commodity poses. The effects of coffee on the health of human beings are controversial. For the most part, there is a lot that has……

Arguments To Vaccinate Or To Not Vaccinate

Pages: 2 (656 words) Sources: 2 Document Type:Essay Document #:65192267

...Diseases To vaccinate or to not?
In summary, the article takes into consideration the consequences that would come about if a parent would make the decision not to vaccinate his or her child. Significantly, the article provides a supposed instance whereby a child that is not vaccinated ends up infecting another child. The comprehension of epidemiological illnesses like measles makes it possible that a persuasive causal association can be created between the decision not to carry out vaccination, and a letdown of not undertaking suitable precautions to isolate a non-vaccinated child who might have been exposed to the illness from highly susceptible persons, and a demise. In a nutshell, the main argument made by the article is that regardless of whether a parent chooses not to vaccinate a child based on exemptions provided by state law, such a decision does not generate full safeguard against liability for the adverse ramifications of……
