The current issue at North Mountain Medical is nursing burnout, which is caused by various factors including inadequate staffing, increased workload, long working hours, poor working environment, and inadequate time to complete a task effectively. The proposed change project to address this issue is an educational plan that targets nursing burnout, particularly workplace stress management. In this regard, the practicum education project focuses on training nurses at North Mountain Medical on nursing burnout, particularly workplace stress management. Through the insights obtained from this course, nurses in this facility will be able to implement evidence-based strategies on workplace stress management and preventing/dealing with nursing burnout.

Introduction and Overview
Emergency departments (EDs) can play a major role in reducing the risk and occurrence of suicide, self-harm and harm caused to others by taking steps to create a safety plan for the patient (Stanley et al., 2018). However, many EDs do very little to actually assist patients in this regard. My own experience at Legacy Treatment Center, where I interned, allowed me to see as much. Legacy is in Lee County’s Screening Center for Mental Health Crisis and is located inside Main St Hospital, and patients from all over the county are processed through the Emergency Room. At Legacy, patients will be screened using the Columbia Assessment to see whether they are currently suicidal, homicidal or a danger to others. However, these patients are not offered counseling services. Instead, they are referred or voluntarily or involuntarily committed. The lack of any……

The federal budget process is overseen by US Congressmen, who are fundamentally immersed in the political nature of government. As Elwood (2008) notes, members of Congress are influenced in three ways: 1) by money that is used to finance their political campaigns; 2) by obtaining the votes necessary for reelection; and 3) by obtaining expert advice on topics that are of personal importance to them. The federal budget process is particularly impactful on the first two and vice versa. For example, “the ability to funnel money into a congressional district or state provides an excellent opportunity for a legislator to remain in office” (Elwood, 2008, p. 3). Public Policy Issue
This policy will mandate that mandatory staffing ratios be met by hospitals throughout the nation. This is an important public policy issue because it would oblige hospitals that are part of the Medicare program to create a committee that is partly made of nurses who can discuss the issue of staffing. As Fowler and Comeaux (2017) point out, staffing is still a major challenge for nurses. If there are too few nurses on staff it can lead to nurse burnout. The right ratio of nurses to patients is required to prevent nurses from being overburdened (Martin, 2015). The reason I selected this policy is because it is clearly important to nurses’ own health and ability to do their jobs.
