Tanzanian Experience Since Independence and Term Paper

In the case of Tanzania, because of the country's continued heavy reliance on agriculture and the fact that almost half of the country's workforce remains tied to that industry, foreign policies with developed nations in the future should seek to expand ecotourism opportunities and promote joint ventures with the country's burgeoning service industries. These are just a couple of examples, though, because a much broader approach is going to be needed in the future if Tanzania is going to overcome the enormous problems that it continues to face today to become a viable member of the international community. In the final analysis, every country in Africa is unique and comes with its own specific combination of resources and challenges. In the case of Tanzania, the country needs a foreign policy today that can help it improve its economic infrastructure in the short-term to be sure, but a much more broad-based approach is going to be required to succeed in the long-term.

The country's continued reliance on agriculture in both terms of percentage of its workforce and industry devoted to it, combined with the fact that Tanzania is not a very good place to grow things to begin with, suggests that foreign policymakers should seek to attract investments in the other things the country has to offer rather than trying to prop up a system that has not proven successful in the past and seems doomed to failure without continued massive international support. Therefore, it is recommended that because Tanzania continues to rely heavily on international donor assistance just to survive today, these types of initiatives should continue to be pursued aggressively. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, the nation's leaders should make things such as improved corporate transparency, the elimination of corruption and the implementation of recognized international accounting standards to their foreign policy marketing mix.
