Introduction
While terrorist groups are rarely defended by non-members, there is often the sense among objective observers that not all members of a religion that may be said to have “spawned” terrorism are terrorists or sympathetic to terrorism themselves. For instance, not every Muslim supports ISIS or al-Qaeda, and not every Irish Catholic supports the Irish Republican Army (IRA). Most Muslims and Catholics view their religions as religions of peace. On the other hand, critics of religion tend to hold the opinion that all religions lead to extremism when taken seriously and that people from these groups who become “extremists” and take to terrorism are really simply adhering body, mind and soul to the ideology of their religion. But how true is this criticism? Is it possible that in every Muslim or Catholic there exists a potential jihadist or a potential Crusader?……

The U.S. adapted to wartime needs during WWII by mobilizing people for war (drafting and enlisting men to be soldiers), opening factors to build machines for war, raising funding for the war by introducing war bonds, and relying on volunteers to help civil defense government programs. The Office of Civilian Defense was established to help keep communities safe. The Civil Air Patrol was started to empower civilians to patrol the borders and coasts. Women also started working in factories to support the war effort while the men were off training and fighting. Immigrants from Mexico were also brought in to help with the farming. Even the black community, which beforehand had continued to be marginalized under Jim Crow, was recruited to join the war effort and enlist as soldiers. The purpose of this paper is to provide a review of the relevant literature to describe current government initiatives for addressing substance abuse by adolescents in the United States. An analysis of what is being done as well as what is not being done is followed by an examination of gaps in the current initiatives. In addition, a discussion concerning the health advocacy groups that have attempted to advocate for this health issue and the possibility of collaboration with one of these groups is followed by an analysis concerning how collaboration with existing advocacy groups can further the efficacy of the program to address this public health issue. How To Help Stop Veteran Suicides

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), on average, about 20 veterans commit suicide every day (Suicide among veterans, 2016). The transition from active military service to civilian life frequently exacerbates any existing mental health disorders, and far too many veterans fail to seek the help they need to cope. In this regard, Albright and Borah (2017) emphasize that, “Mental health concerns such as posttraumatic stress disorder and major depression can be significant problems for these populations which lead to increased risk for suicidal ideation, attempts, and completed suicides” (p. 11). Although this population is 50% more likely to commit suicide than the American population at large, those who do seek help are far less likely to commit suicide (Spiva, 2019).

Lucas and James (2018) evaluate the effect of specialist mentoring on college students with autism and other mental health conditions and found that mentees receive academic, social and emotional support from their mentors. However, the researchers also observed group differences between those with autism and those with other mental health issues. What makes a relationship between mentor and mentee work best according to the findings of Lucas and James (2018) is when the relationship is customized to fit the needs of the mentee: tailored relationships that focus on developing a personal relationship, empowering the mentee and constructing a “bridge” that enables the mentee to become more involved in the university experience were all seen as significant and powerful ways for the mentee to benefit from peer mentoring. The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), the co-beneficiary of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1947, was established in Philadelphia by individuals from the Religious Society of Friends (i.e., the Quakers) in Spring 1917. The link between AFSC and the Religious Society of Friends was always tenuous, as the activism of the organization was something universal that many non-Quakers around the world could celebrate, while the actual tenets of Quakerism were not nearly as popular as the peace movement that the Religious Society of Friends took part in. Initially, the goals of the committee were limited; however, over the 20th century, the AFSC embraced pacifism and began taking part in the fight for peace (Ingle, 2016).
