Polonius: A Literature Review
As chief counselor to the king of Denmark, Polonius plays an important and nefarious role in Shakespeare’s Hamlet—yet his words are often quoted out of context and it is Polonius, the spying, lying, manipulating old fool of a father and … quoted out of context and it is Polonius, the spying, lying, manipulating old fool of a father and counselor who gives one of Shakespeare’s most memorable lines: “To thine own self be true!” (Shakespeare 1.3.564). Polonius shows of course that it matters not if one is being true to one’s self because the self is a chameleon … the relevant literature pertaining to Polonius’s character and “wisdom.”
As Wilson notes, the line given by Polonius on how to be “true” is Shakespeare’s attempt to eviscerate the maxim and proverb spouting, Puritanical virtue signalers of his day:  “It is his satire of moral entrepreneurs” (Wilson par.……

… these, Hero has lost her attractive heroic traits. "Fare thee well most foul, most fair, farewell." This line shows the literal skill by Shakespeare to use homophones, while at the same time communicating logical text relevant to the current events. The soundings of "fair" is said thrice … and fair in the same line and "pure impiety" and "impious purity" in the line that follows exemplifies a rhetorical style that distinguishes Shakespeare from many other writers of his time. Rhetoric has been used in this case to……

Indirect Vs Direct Abortion And Catholic Teaching

Pages: 3 (1021 words) Sources: 3 Document Type:Essay Document #:51097022

...Shakespeare Ethics
First off, no decision can be made without the informed consent of the parents and if they are opposed to a hysterectomy then it is unethical to go ahead with the operation. Additionally, if they are opposed to an abortion to save the mother’s life then this option cannot be advised or considered either. The principle of the double effect states that there are times when it is morally permissible to perform an action in pursuit of a good end even though it will also have bad effects as well. This is the basic concept behind an indirect evil. In the pursuit of a good, i.e., the preservation of the mother’s life an indirect bad may result but it is not immoral because the bad result was not pursued directly. This would be the situation with a hysterectomy and the direct vs. indirect sterilization issue. The mother does not……

Reforming The High School System

Pages: 10 (2967 words) Sources: 7 Document Type:Essay Document #:70939676

...Shakespeare Introduction
Paulo Freire rejected the traditional method of teaching, which consists mainly of passive learning, and advocated a more active learning approach. The style of learning he said worked best at shaping students was something similar to the Socratic method of dialogue and inquiry. This made students more engaged. Instead of sitting in their desks like passive receptacles waiting for information to be downloaded into their brains, they become more like participants in their own education, taking ownership of the educative process (Micheletti). The focus on active learning and the Socratic Method is what high schools need now more than ever. Considering that the U.S. Department of Education has found that every 26 seconds a student drops out of high school for a total of 7,000 students per day quitting school before they graduate, one can see that there is a veritable mass exodus of children from the education system (DoSomething.org).……
