...Medicine Keywords:  corona virus, coronavirus, covid, covid-19

Abstract

The novel Coronavirus COVID-19 appeared in China in 2019, quickly having a much more serious impact than prior evolutions of the coronavirus.  As it began to spread from Wuhan, the district in China where it originated, to other parts of China and to other countries, the world began to realize that the local epidemic could become a pandemic.  Efforts to contain the spread were varied and had mixed results, but Coronavirus eventually hit the United States and began to spread locally.  In this article, we describe what Coronavirus is, what COVID-19 is, where it originated, where it has spread, transmission rates, mortality, and efforts to contain the spread of the disease.  Because this is a constantly evolving situation, this article should be used in conjunction with developing news to fully understand the issue.

Depression Among Adolescents

Pages: 12 (3576 words) Sources: 6 Document Type:Term Paper Document #:12294857

...Medicine The Social Issue
Depression is a significant social issue of interest to me as I have seen it affect numerous people in my own life and have even struggled with it at times myself. Depression has caused people to take their lives: Chester Bennington, lead singer of the group Linkin Park took his life following the suicide of his friend, and numerous other people who are less famous end up in similar situations—lost, without hope, unable to break a cycle of depression that has them gripped as though in a vice. Depression is an issue that can be treated, however, but in order for the right intervention to be applied, awareness about depression has to be raised so that the stigma and taboo of depression can be alleviated, allowing those who suffer from it to come forward. In recent years, major public figures, especially athletes, have come into the light……

Drug Therapy Vs Animal Therapy

Pages: 7 (2031 words) Sources: 6 Document Type:Research Paper Document #:70346686

...Medicine Poor Children, the Problem of Drug Therapy and Possible Alternatives
Introduction
Foster children are more likely than children in the general population to have mental health issues (Polihronakis, 2008). Part of the reason for this is that foster children are in foster care because they have been neglected in their own homes, their parents are incapable of providing food, love, shelter and nourishment, and they are in need of a nurturing environment. Many of them will have experienced a traumatic event, or the transition from one home to another will be traumatic—and so they end up suffering from mental health problems. It is estimated that approximately 8 out of every 10 children in foster care have mental health issues, as opposed to 2 out of 10 children in the rest of the population (NCSL, 2019). For that reason, youths in foster homes and/or those who grow up in poverty are……

Urinary Leakage And Incontinence

Pages: 1 (333 words) Sources: 2 Document Type:Essay Document #:80930495

...Medicine Urinary Leakage
A 63-year-old female returns for a follow-up regarding blood pressure. During ROS, the patient mentions that she sometimes has a little urinary leakage. The leakage has been happening for a few years but seems to be getting worse. Urinary leakage is a sign of urinary incontinence, which refers to accidental loss of urine. This condition is more common among older people, particularly women and it’s caused by various factors. One of the potential differential diagnoses for her condition is urinary incontinence (Aoki et al., 2017). Some of the signs/symptoms that could result in this diagnosis include the accidental urine leakage, restricted mobility, irritation, and constipation. The second differential diagnosis that could be applicable to the patient’s condition is overactive bladder (OAB), which is a condition associated with unexpected strong urge to void or frequent urination. In addition to these signs, she could be diagnosed with the condition if……

Urinary Tract Infection In A Child

Pages: 1 (354 words) Sources: 2 Document Type:Essay Document #:33216802

...Medicine Urinary Trait Infection
A mother brings her 4-year-old daughter concerned about a possible urinary tract infection. She reports her child has had three prior episodes of urinary tract infection in the last 15 months. The mother states that she had problems when she was a child. Urinary tract infections are generally common among children and can pose severe bacterial infection during childhood (Kaufman, Temple-Smith & Sanci, 2019). Therefore, early diagnosis and treatment of the condition is critical to help improve a child’s condition and lessen the significant economic burden it brings to the healthcare system. Diagnosis of this condition entails examining a patient’s family and medical history. Since the mother has indicated she had problems when she was child, the diagnosis would require collecting additional information regarding her family history. This would help establish whether the child’s condition is associated with a genetic predisposition (Leung et al., 2019). It is……

Acute Myocardial Infarction Diagnosis And Treatment Plan

Pages: 1 (408 words) Sources: 2 Document Type:Essay Document #:99868799

...Medicine Diagnosis and Treatment Plan
In the present scenario, the patient presents with symptoms similar to those of acute myocardial infarction AMI. It therefore follows that the primary diagnosis in this case, on the strength of the said symptoms and following further assessment, would be AMI. In basic terms, AMI is occasioned by tissue damage as a consequence of the abrupt cut-off of blood flow to the heart. Some of the key symptoms associated with AMI include, but they are not limited to “chest pain, which travels from left arm to neck, shortness of breath, sweating, nausea, vomiting, abnormal heart beating, anxiety, fatigue, weakness, stress, depression, and other factors” (Lu, Sun, Zheng, and Zhang, 2015, p. 866). In the case presented, the patient presents with shortness of breath and midsternal chest pain.
In seeking to confirm the primary diagnosis, some of the tests that would come in handy are an ECG……

Asthma Condition Assessment And Diagnosis

Pages: 1 (354 words) Sources: 2 Document Type:Essay Document #:42409482

...Medicine Condition Assessment and Diagnosis
It should be noted from the onset that patients who are asthmatic ought to manage their asthma in a proper manner during pregnancy. This is more so the case given the need to minimize complications during the term of the pregnancy. It is important to note that some of the problems that could result as a consequence of poorly controlled asthma during pregnancy include, but they are not limited to; hypertension, premature birth, as well as restricted fetal growth (Vincent, Abraham, Kochanek, and Fink, 2011). It therefore follows that in the scenario recounted, the key concern would be the pregnant female patient’s control of her asthma at this point in time.
There would be need to find out if the patient has been taking her asthma medications as recommended since she became pregnant. A thorough physical examination as well as patient history would also be of……

Scarlet Fever Medical Condition Diagnosis

Pages: 1 (369 words) Sources: 2 Document Type:Essay Document #:40634150

...Medicine Diagnosis: Scarlet Fever
On the basis of the symptoms presented, the patient is likely to be suffering from scarlet fever. The patient’s presenting symptoms are inclusive of a strawberry tongue, mild fever (102 F), conjunctivitis, and an erythematous masculopapular rash. These symptoms are synonymous with those of scarlet fever. Some of the most common symptoms of scarlet fever include, but they are not limited to; strawberry tongue, a flushed face, headache, vomiting and nausea, enlarged lymph nodes, and fever (Habif, 2009). It is also important to note that as McKinnon and Howard (2000) observe, “scarlet fever provides the classic example of an erythematous rash with subsequent desquamation” (806).
Scarlet fever, as Habif (2009) points out, is caused by a streptococcal, erythrogenic toxin. As the author further notes, the infection is rather common in kids aged between 1 and 10 years – specifically those who do not have immunity to the……

Viral Gastroenteritis Diagnosis Case Assessment

Pages: 1 (393 words) Sources: 2 Document Type:Essay Document #:53209308

...Medicine Viral Gastroenteritis Diagnosis
Based on the symptoms presented, the child could be suffering from viral gastroenteritis (or what is commonly referred to as the stomach flu). In basic terms, this is an intestinal infection that is in most cases developed either via the ingestion of water or food that is contaminated, or via contact with an infected person. It should be noted that in the present scenario, the 5-year-old attends daycare. Thus, he could have gotten the infection through close contact with an infected child. Some of the symptoms associated with viral gastroenteritis include, but they are not limited to, low-grade fever, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain/cramps, diarrhea, etc. Indeed, in the words of Churgay and Aftab (2012), “acute gastroenteritis in children is often defined as the onset of diarrhea in the absence of chronic disease, with or without abdominal pain, fever, nausea, or vomiting” (1060). The child’s symptoms mimic the……
