Based upon the fact the baby boomers are all approaching retirement age, it would be a good idea for the organization to pursue programs that are geared towards seniors. Programs that are geared towards seniors are a great way to produce quality comprehensive health care for those in the community that need it. The organization might pursue the idea of opening a PACE program. " The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) is a capitated benefit authorized by the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 (BBA) that features a comprehensive service delivery system and integrated Medicare and Medicaid financing" (Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), 2009). The PACE program features complete medical and social services that rely on an interdisciplinary team approach in an adult day health center that includes in-home and referral services depending on the person's needs (Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), 2009)

5.

How do you think the organization could improve its financial return?

There are several things that Metropolis Heath System could do to improve its financial return. They could work to improve collections in regards to their bad debt accounts while working to cut any unnecessary operating expenses. Increasing their number of patients will help to bring in more revenue which will improve their financial return. They have seen in the past how much improving their service lines and expanding the programs that they offer has done to increase their patient flow. Concentrating on these areas, along with some strategic investing could do wonders for their bottom line and help to increase their profitability.

Include any other points of interest you see in the case study.

I thought it was very interesting that they had been focusing on implement comprehensive wellness programs. These are a great way to improve their relationship with the community and the people who live there. Concentrating on wellness programs are good for the entire population overall. Receiving good medical care before major illness happen help to reduce hospital stays and reduce costs, both for the hospital and the patient. The more community health programs that a health system has established within the community the more name recognition that they gain and the more potential business they draw in.

I also think that they MHS foundation and Volunteer Auxiliary programs that they are running are a great way to get and keep the community involved in what is going on in the health system. This leads to great trust within the community along with increased donations that will help to fund many programs fro the community.
