Security is, as expected, extremely tight, and because of this, the Pentagon also houses shopping facilities, banks, a bus and subway station, and numerous restaurants (Johnson). Employees do not need to leave the building once they arrive each day, which makes it easier to manage security. The building also has its own sewage treatment plant, and heating and cooling facilities (Johnson).

In conclusion, the Pentagon is much more than a Washington area office building concerned with the defense of the nation. It is made up of a group of dedicated men and women who quietly and efficiently run the day-to-day operations of the nation's defense, while studying how to maintain strength and military defense in the future. The Pentagon stands for strength, determination, and freedom. The building itself is miraculous, and rose from the ashes of the 9/11 terrorist attacks even stronger than before. Part small city, part defense stronghold, and part architectural trendsetter, the Pentagon is a symbol of America's military might and ingenuity.
