It is important that I am honest to anyone who I choose to be my mentor. Communication must be frank and honest, as learning is the key to research.
Requirements for IRB Approval
Institutional Review Boards (IRB) are the governing bodies that determine what research may be conducted at the university. This is the approving authority for future knowledge and must be treated with honor and respect. As a student under the authority of the IRB, it is important that I am aligned with the ethical approach that is promoted from this source. Before embarking on any research question, it will be wise to consult the published requirements of this institution's IRB standards. Once IRB approval is given, it is also important to follow through on my end of the bargain as many things can change in the course of a research project. Ethical behavior dictates notifying the board of any significant alterations to my research.
Conclusions
DeVries et al. (2006) wrote a very interesting ideas regarding the special situation, we as professional researchers practice. He wrote, "as we analyzed our focus group data, we came to realize that the everyday problems of scientists are often associated not just with ordinary human frailties, but with the difficulty of working on the frontier of knowledge. " This frontier of knowledge should be held with enough respect, that honest and ethical systems of research should be implemented and followed as civilization continues to unfold and evolve into a new landscape hungry for that knowledge.
