The work-life balance is important for anyone who has a life outside of work. Some people make their careers their whole lives and they manage to be successful because they do not have any real life outside of their work. They live to work and that is fine for them. However, most people do not live that way: most people have a family outside of work; they have friends, they have children or spouses, and they have duties and obligations that they must meet outside of what they do professionally. Sometimes these duties relate to the community or to a church or to a school or to a house or family. The bottom line is that these duties necessitate that a person be able to balance the work-life relationship in a way that sufficient time is given to both one’s professional responsibilities and to one’s private responsibilities.

The aim of the public safety sector is the provision of products and services geared at safeguarding individuals and their property. Over 286,000 individuals are employed in this sector, which can be segregated into the following two key segments: commercial and governmental organizations. Federal, regional, state, and local level governmental public safety organizations agencies have outnumbered commercial ones all through the course of the past decade. Most individuals working in this sector are hired by governmental organizations, including the fire department, police department, and sheriff's department. Some federal level public safety institutions include the CIA, FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and Border Patrol (Vault, 2020).
The most predominant public safety jobs are connected with the police: police officers, detectives/ investigators, or correctional officers. What differentiated the control group from the two experimental groups and the two experimental groups from each other?
The aim of the experiment is key to differentiating all the groups involved: groups A, B, and control. Festinger and Carlsmith (1959) were trying to identify the occurrence of cognitive dissonance in the experiment through the motivations of the groups, thereby proving the validity of their theory over the behaviorist and reinforcement approach. The main difference between all the groups is the motivation/level of dissonance experienced. The control group experienced no dissonance, as they were not required to lie about the experimental procedure nor offered monetary compensation; the other groups were, however, motivated to lie via monetary compensation. The United States Congress has for many years been directly involved in ensuring that the country has a fully equipped standing military force that is capable of dealing with any external or internal threat. One of the ways it does this is to make laws that influence how the different branches of the United States military recruit and retain soldiers.
