The work will help me find out my “reflected best self” so that I can scrutinize it to find strengths and competencies that can help me be the best version of myself. The results of this self-evaluation report will provide me with new insights into who I am or help me affirm observations I have made about myself. By definition, reflected best-self (RBS) is an individual’s cognitive conceptualization of the characteristics or qualities that he or she displays when they are at their best. Roberts, et al. (2005) add knowledge of how others perceive us to the concept of the reflected best self. Although employee referrals are an easy, fast and often tempting way to staff positions, the risk is that doing so can lead to a less diverse workplace, with 40% of all referrals tending to be white men (Payscale, 2018). I started my health and nutrition program study after I began reading more health literature. I had seen my father’s health erode as a result of poor dieting and lack of exercise. He suffers from diabetes and is convinced it is not related to his lack of dieting or exercise, but the literature I had read convinced me otherwise. Davis (2008) showed that natives in the Marshall Islands developed diabetes when they moved away from their natural, organic diets and began consuming pre-packaged, fast foods. He initiated a program that returned them to a lifestyle of living off the land and sea, which gave them exercise and a healthy, organic diet. Their diabetes disappeared (Davis, 2008).
