Schizophrenia

This paper describes and discusses schizophrenia. It looks at the disorder from the standpoint of history, etiology, treatment, prevention, culture and the Bible to explore its many facets. It shows that in spite of there being no known cause of the disorder, treating it is possible. It highlights the need to reduce the taboo and stigma associate with schizophrenia as a step in preventing it or at least in treating it before it worsens. It notes that from the Biblical standpoint faith can be a factor in prevention.

My Personal Model: Transformational Leadership
My own personal model of leadership is transformational leadership. This model focuses on giving following a vision of what they should work to become. The transformational leader identifies and explains the goal that the organization is trying to reach and how workers can help the organization to achieve that goal. It typically requires a change in the behavior and approaches of the workers, so logic and reason are used to show why this change is needed, which is a way of helping to break down resistance to the change (Nawaz & Khan, 2016). Communication is a key skill used in this model, and transformational leaders have to be able to relate well with followers, provide support along the way, and keep them focused on the vision and the mission. Julia Jacobs’ article in the New York Times entitled “Dancer Tries to Quell ‘West Side Story’ Controversy: ‘I Am Not a Victim’” raises interesting questions in the #MeToo era, namely who can and should define what constitutes a victim of sexual assault. A controversy arose in the casting of the actor Amar Ramasar the Broadway revival of West Side Story, due to the fact that Ramasar had been found to have shared nude photos of his girlfriend, the ballet dancer Alexa Maxwell, in a punitive act after the couple had separated. Maxwell stated that she had forgiven her former boyfriend, and had even felt pressured to prosecute him after a prominent attorney in the #MeToo movement had contacted her about the toxic culture at City Ballet, where both Ramasar and Maxwell had danced. Maxwell opposed Ramasar’s firing from the play.

Washington Irving’s short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” tells the story of the self-important, intellectual schoolmaster Ichabod Crane who wants to marry Katrina Van Tassel, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy farmer. Crane is nervous and superstitious and during a party he is regaled of stories of the mysterious headless horsemen who haunts the roads at night. His rival is Abraham “Brom Bones” Van Brunt, who is known for playing pranks. Crane meets with a rider who apparently has no head, and who then throws his pumpkin head at Crane. Crane is never seen from again, and is not missed very much, since he was always an outsider and not liked by the insular town of Sleepy Hollow.
