An IT manager should be able to determine and define the priorities of his organization. Hence, during such instances, an IT manager should take the lead of identifying the best e-solutions to the needs, particularly on information needs, of his organization. He must have the ability to create approaches that can best meet the needs of the organization. Mark Gordon (2002) suggests the following.

Particularly in the area of an organization's operation, as are now mostly run by automations, an IT manager can create different strategies that can align to the current trends in technology as well as to the goals and objectives of his organization. In general, therefore, the role of an IT manager should be driven by his skills and will to develop strategic IT solutions that will benefit the organization, both in terms of providing e-support to the goal of achieving successful business operations as well as in terms of maximizing the finances of his organization.
