Respondents to the questionnaire, who are in a first-hand position to assess the construction industry in Iran, agree on what all of the basic problems are and on many of the interrelationships and influences that these problems have on each other and on the industry itself. They are also in relatively strong agreement that Iran's foreign policy and its overall position in the geopolitical environment are having direct negative impacts on business as a whole and the construction industry specifically. This suggests that attitudes and understandings within the country are continuing to shift more toward Western perspectives regarding the free market, the exchange of information, and the mutual benefit of regional stability. It is only when such liberties and stability are achieved that the construction industry in Iran will be turned around, as it is through real and lasting social change that education and material exchanges can take place, trade and inflation stabilized, and economic growth facilitated. Iran needs to re-enter the modern world with a modern government and modern society before the construction industry itself can be modernized and made successful.
