Marriage, Love and the Division of Household Labor
What does marriage mean in the U.S. today? For roughly half the people who marry … something that requires self-sacrifice—but ultimately I think the reality will come back and people will re-understand the concept better.
To me love is putting others first and meeting their needs. It is not enough to wait for someone to ask for something. If you see … being uncharitable if you ignore it and go on about your business as if you did not see it in the first place. Love is about being charitable towards others. It can be in the way one speaks, one thinks, one acts. For me, love is not a feeling, really. I have fallen in love before. That is one of the most overwhelming experiences one can have and I think it really only happens once. Once……

… me. By my troth, it is no addition to her wit—nor no great argument of her folly, for I will be horribly in love with her. (II.iii.204–208).
Leonato, Claudio, and Don Pedro have been discussing Beatrice's love, albeit fabricated, for Benedick, and he (Benedick) has overheard. On stage, alone, he thinks about these developments and resolves to reciprocate the love. He quips, "for I will be terribly in love with her" (II.iii.208). This section is obviously meant to elicit humor, as it is realistically impossible to fall so deeply in love with a person just by knowing their virtues. The intention to elicit humor can also be perceived in the use of the word … the battle of wits between these two.
Indeed, there has been competition between the two. It isn't sufficient for Benedick to return Beatrice's love and passions. He must exceed them, perhaps to outcompete……

Growth Areas and Strategies for Self-Care
While there is no exclusive command requiring us to love ourselves, there is Biblical support for self-care. Confronted by the Scribes to give His view on what was the first of all commandments … give His view on what was the first of all commandments in Mark 12: 28-31, for instance, Jesus answered that it is to love the Lord with all of one’s heart, soul mind, and strength; and to love one’s neighbor as oneself. Loving oneself, therefore, is a prerequisite for loving God and one’s neighbor.[footnoteRef:1] Christians have an ethical duty to love and care for oneself, as self-care forms the foundation of love for God and others.[footnoteRef:2] There is a need for me to grow in this duty of self-care and the realization that there is ……

Cosentino (2020) points out that self-esteem is built by expressing love towards others and by having love expressed to oneself. Indeed, this is essentially a Christian idea. Milton Friedman’s quote gets to the heart of the conflict between shareholder theory vs. stakeholder theory. Shareholder theory posits that a corporation’s sole responsibility is to maximize the return on investment (ROI) for shareholders. Stakeholder theory posits, on the other hand, that a company owes a duty to all stakeholders (not just shareholders)—members of the community, workers, consumers; in short, anyone who is part of or who is impacted in some way by the company. The question is: Do corporations exist only to serve the interests of shareholders or do they also have a responsibility to serve stakeholders as well? This paper will answer that question by looking at the nature and essence of business social responsibility from the standpoint of the four major sources of ethical values in business: Law, Culture, Philosophy, and Religion. It will show that in today’s business environment, stakeholder theory needs to be pursued……
