Furthermore, the Home Depot employs many community members providing them with a livelihood enabling them to earn a living. Additionally, the special activities of the Home Depot in the community in which they are located results in benefits realized by community members in various areas such as housing, workshops, clinics, and other specialized services of the Home Depot. The slogan used by the Home Depot of "you can do it, we can help" is a slogan that states confidence in the consumer in their ability to successfully complete their own do-it-yourself home projects and provides assurance that the Home Depot will "assist" or "help" the customer in successful home project completion. The Home Depot does not simply state this but evidences these supports through the many workshops and clinics offered in the communities in which they are located. The Home Depot is proactively involved in building a better community, a more sustainable community and a safer community.

The literature reviewed in this report has clearly shown that the independence and autonomy allowed managers in the local Home Depot stores enables these managers to able to gain a 'feel' for the local culture of their market and this is demonstrated through allowing choice of the local Home Depot stores in charitable contributions. What is effective, helpful and brings customers back again in one community might simply not be effective in another community, state, or country. Critically important in the Home Depot's strategy is keeping the customer-centric to the organization as a whole and ensuring the provision of the assistance and supports needed by customers in their home project initiatives. Encouragement and instruction are the tools used by the Home Depot in gaining and keeping customers who are happy with the projects that they have completed assisted by the products and services of the Home Depot.

This work has shown that there are four key areas focused upon by the Home Depot, and that these areas are those of: (1) refurbishing playgrounds and building playgrounds; (2) ensuring the safety of community spaces and the accessibility of these gathering spaces; (3) building and refurbishing housing that is 'transitional and affordable'; and (4) preparation communities for emergencies. Key components of corporate governance of the Home Depot are those of: (1) giving back; (2) excellent customer services; (3) creation of shareholder value; (4) Entrepreneurial spirit; (5) taking care of our people; (6) respect for all people; (7) doing the right thing; and (8) building strong relationships.

CONCLUSION

While many businesses simply mouth the guarantees that they believe customers want to hear or keep their prices lower than any other business to gain the competitive edge, the Home Depot, quite simply put its' "money where its' mouth is" through investing in the community and its individuals in real-life initiatives to help consumers do that which they believed they were not able to do because of the assistance and expertise offered by the Home Depot and its associates. Home Depot is not just helping individuals and families achieve their goals but is importantly assisting communities as a whole to achieve important and commendable goals in the community, throughout many communities, across the United States and Internationally proving that their slogan of: "You can do it, We can help" is more than a slogan but instead is the guiding principle of the Home Depot.
