...Racism Nurses are always considered helpers and the profession is widely regarded as one for compassionate and helping individuals. The Nursing’s Social Policy Statement is a work that seeks to detail the many ways in which nurses can assist others. How nurses relate with the society is through a relationship. A relationship that is sort of a social contract complete with expectations from both sides. The relationship allows nurses to carry out their professional duties in the provision of care to individual clients and to the society. It also empowers nursing practitioners to engage in policymaking, legislative and political action for the purposes of improving the provision of care, improving nursing practice, improving nursing research, and improving nursing education. Introduction
Power and privilege is a two-way street: power can run both ways, depending on the circumstances or context. For example, a female Latina could be in a position of privilege and power in one environment and in a position of discrimination and prejudice in another environment. I know this from experience because I have been in both types of situations before in my life. What is interesting about being a Latina in America is that while most whites are not going to recognize you as one of their own, they also are not going to lump you in with other ethnic groups, such as blacks or Asians. To illustrate this, Zamudio and Lichter (2008) showed that hotel managers tend to prefer to hire Latinas over blacks in the hotel industry for whatever prejudicial reasons that managers have. Martin Luther King, Jr., likened himself to the “prophets of the eighth century” in his letter from a Birmingham Jail (King, 1963). Since Plessy v. Ferguson (1896), which institutionalized the separate but equal clause, the South had been plagued by Jim Crow, and blacks were being treated unfairly. King had arrived in Birmingham to protest the injustices there. Some of his fellow clergymen objected to his protests, arguing that he was disrupting the peace and that it was un-Christian of him to insert himself into matters that did not pertain to him. Abstract
This paper examines the manner in which the hip hop grew out of the Civil Rights Movement and became a way for disenfranchised black youths, marginalized by society, to express their thoughts and feelings on a world that did want them to rise up. The history of hip hop and its culture is thus a rich one and a complex one that both celebrates youthful joys and energy while also taking different roads towards instigating a dialogue as well. Race is experienced in Invisible Man in a variety of ways. In the beginning of the book, the narrator describes himself as “invisible”—as being flesh and bone and yet going unseen by people. He goes unseen because he is a black man and people choose not to see the black man: they do not want to get involved in that world. Instead, they expect the black man to tread softly and to not make much noise—and so that is what the narrator does, though he has suffered from the occasional outburst of violence.
The narrator’s journey of identity is shaped from beginning to end as a result of race. Prior to going to the university, the narrator is forced to fight in a battle royal for the amusement of the white elites in the South. This is his first big step in his life’s journey towards isolation……

...Racism Watching the video, I felt that I was seeing how real people responded to the Ferguson case and other cases of oppression and injustice—and it was different than just reading these people’s tweets on Twitter or looking at their profiles on social media. It was like seeing the real person behind the digital veneer and I realized that these protestors and the people in the Black Lives Matter are real people, with real feelings. I could hear the emotion in their voices and that made a lot of difference to me. When these members of Black Lives Matter are reading their tweets that they put out in response to the harassment and killings of blacks by white officers, I could see and feel the pain and anger that these people were going through—it was actually quite powerful to see them reading their tweets in the video.
