Outlines can be a very important part of any research or study project. If it's been a while since you've done one of these, you might not remember all of the details, but don't worry – it's not too complex.
With the outline, you start with roman numerals (I, II, III, IV, V. etc.) and then proceed to capital and lowercase letters, and standard numbers, until at the most detailed level, you end up with lowercase roman numerals: (i, ii, iii. Etc.)
But that's not all there is to it.
You also have to look at your structure outline, and what goes into it. In other words, it’s not just the form that’s important – the content is important, too!
When you’re starting out with your outline for any project, the outline has to relate to your thesis statement and the points that you're trying to make.
There's an inherent kind of organization that has to go into your outline, depending on what kind of outline it is, and what you're trying to accomplish. In a key way, your outline is going to be your guide to the finished product, a road map that helps you to see where you’re going as you write.
An essay outline is going to be different, for example, then an outline that just shows a list of resources and their attributes. Even within the idea of crafting essay outlines, structures can be a little different depending on how you want to approach your project. It’s all part of educating yourself about how this kind of academic work gets done, and what goes into it, to get a competitive edge on your tests, your papers, and other high-level educational tasks and goals.
