low income housing for Habitat for Humanity came from a Christian community named Koinonia Farm. The Farm was located near Americus, Georgia, founded in 1942, and the leader of the small Christian society was a bible scholar, Clarence Jordan. Those living at the Farm were of all backgrounds and races of people that needed affordable housing. The concept to work together through 'partnership housing' or voluntarily assisting in the construction of decent housing for people in need of good homes was planted. The Millard and Linda Fuller became acquainted with Jordan after leaving a very successful business and an "affluent lifestyle" in Montgomery, Alabama (NLIHC, 2004). Millard and Linda Fuller worked to establish Habitat for Humanity along with Jordan in 1976.
What type of subjects does it work with?
The main subject area is community housing for the poor or low income family. Therefore the subject is humanities and the subtopic area would be housing services. Habitat for Humanity is not a government program and therefore not a charity. It is rather an organization that brings together the capital and other resources necessary to supply those in need with laborers, funding, real estate, and materials to assist them in getting an affordable home for their families.
How is the program funded?
Funding comes from the wealthy who decide to invest in the lives of their neighbors. The Fund comes from gifts and contributions from those who desire to help others with their wealth. Additional funding comes from very low interest loans from area businesses or philanthropists. However, no cash money will be given. Businesses also contribute materials labor in manhours for community service which is considered a 'funding' or resource as well.
How long has it been in operation?
The land for Koinonia Farm was donated back in 1968 which was for about 42 homes at 1/2 an acre each. An additional four acres was given to construct a park for the community. The money cam from all over the nation to begin the project. Each of the homes were built for low income families and they were able to purchase them at no interest. The homes were sold at cost with no profit attached to the selling price. This was the beginning business model for Habitat for Humanity which has survived 43 years and now has projects all over the world (NLIHC, 2004).
Has the program been evaluated before?
Habitat for Humanity is evaluated each year by a number of internal and external auditing and oversight programs. Each branch of the organization must respond to a quality control review of financial reporting along with the annual report to the Georgia Headquarters (Haurin & Parcel, 2002). In addition this is followed up by the Habitat for Humanity International Oversight and National Oversight Financial Committee. The…

Irish Corporate Governance "Irish Development NGOs," notes a 2008 associational guidebook from the Corporate Governance Association of Ireland (CGAI), "exist to create a better world. They operate on a global scale with diverse missions, but are united by a shared commitment to social justice and the eradication of poverty" (CGAI, Irish Development NGOs). But as noble as these intentions are, they are coming up short in their missions because they do not

Neuroscience and Human Development One of the most noticeable aspects of human beings involves the changes in shape, size, form, and function of the individual from a newly formed fetus to a fully grown adult. As the single most successful organism on Earth, human beings have developed, through millions of years of evolutionary adaptations, integrated yet malleable systems involving biological, physiological, emotional and intellectual components. This paper will review some of
