Introduction
When it comes to healthcare marketing there are certain restrictions that have to be followed under U.S. law. For example, the FDA has rules for companies that want to market pharmaceuticals directly to consumers. Truth-in-advertising laws have to be complied with. Stark Law rules and HIPAA rules both determine the extent to which social media platforms can be used by medical companies, with respect to doctors gaining referrals and the potential for patient information to be spread publicly in violation of the privacy rights of patients (Lane, 2019). Moreover, aside from issues of compliance, the nature of marketing has changed to such an extent within the last few decades that much of advertising itself has migrated from old media to new media to focus on targeted consumers. ...History Introduction: What Is Known About Elder Abuse
Elder abuse occurs at an alarming rate: around one million incidences a year and perhaps more due to under-reporting and inconsistencies in defining what constitutes elder abuse (Falk, Baigis, Kopac, et al., 2012). Roberto (2016) estimates as many as one in every ten American elders experience some kind of abuse. Unfortunately, “there is no uniform term or agreed-upon definition used among state governments, researchers, health care and service providers, and advocates,” (Roberto, 2016, p. 302). Cultural and religious diversity further impedes the evolution of a comprehensive and universally applicable definition of elder abuse, in spite of the fact that some forms of abuse and certain instances can be considered unequivocal (Saghafi, Bahramnezhad, Poormollamirza, et al., 2019).
Some types of abuse may go undetected, such as financial abuse or identity theft, which could go unnoticed for years. Healthcare workers often feel powerless to intervene……

As John David Skrentny points out, the Cold War helped to remove some of the obstacles that prevented African Americans from obtaining their civil rights in the 20th century. The Communists of the Soviet Union used American racism as a cudgel with which to browbeat America for its hypocritical values and so-called freedom. America was essentially forced to respond by adopting a more liberal stance towards equal rights and to pursue a policy and culture of desegregation.

There were several factors that led to a Union victory in the Civil War. One of the most important ones was Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. This not only liberated all slaves in Confederate held states so long as they agreed to fight for the Union, it also made slavery one of the primary issues of the war from that point on. This was especially important for the South’s hope of foreign assistance from England. England had already banned slavery and so now that Lincoln had made slavery the main issue of the war through his Proclamation, England could not very well lend support to the South—because then it would essentially be lending support to slavery.

The issue of abolitionism came to a head with John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry in 1859. Brown’s intention was to instigate an armed slave rebellion (Horwitz). Brown and nearly two dozen other men took over a U.S. arsenal at Harpers Ferry in Virginia—but instead of achieving the goal of a slave revolt, the men were caught in a stand-off with U.S. Marines from October 16th to the 18th. Robert E. Lee, ironically, was the commander in charge of retaking the arsenal; Lee would be the commander of the Southern Army just a year and a half later. Other future Confederates assisting in the recapturing of Harpers Ferry from the insurrectionist Brown and his men were Stonewall Jackson and J. E. B. Stuart (Horwitz). When I arrived on the shores of the United States, I was naturally apprehensive about the stories I had heard about signs proclaiming “No Irish Wanted.” Fortunately, things have changed a great deal since my cousin Barney emigrated here thirty years ago.
