Domestic Terrorism Every Discussion Related Term Paper

There have been analyses made regarding this aspect and opinions are both for an easier gun regulation as well as against such a legislative initiative. On the one hand, it is considered that indeed legally allowing people to buy guns would automatically trigger a greater number of fire arms. (Workman, 2006) on the other hand however, Peter Hamm, spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, suggests that the government's activities is directed in the wrong place because "it's the guns that have been around a while that could wind up in criminal hands not the guy who's going out and buying a new $700 handgun.... The guns that cause the worst problems in this country are not selling for very high prices." (Workman, 2006) Therefore, it can be said that the most important issue is not exactly the restriction of expensive guns, but rather the restriction of cheap, easy to use fire arms because those are most appealing to domestic terrorist groups who do not have large financial resources or members with good gun skills.

Finally, it is hard to consider an eventual end to the issue of terrorism, both domestic and international terrorism. This is due to the volatile nature of terrorist groups and their means of action. Similarly, there is no clear answer related to the idea of a more important form of terror, domestic or foreign. I see both aspects as important.

On the one hand, domestic terrorism affects us directly and in everyday life; situations such as the Oklahoma Bombing or even an attack on an African-American on the street by a racist gang can affect and curve an innocent life. Thus, domestic terrorism puts in balance the core values of our society and affects its very intimate nature.

On the other hand however, international terrorism, as seen above, cannot be considered any more an independent phenomenon because more and more domestic groups forge ties with groups from abroad and act globally. Therefore, one cannot isolate itself or its society from this international phenomenon. In this sense, international terrorism affects both out capacity of conducting an independent foreign policy, one that is not conditioned by different threats and our possibility of protecting national citizens and a normal domestic policy to include necessities for everyday life and not concerns over imminent international terrorist attacks. Nonetheless, I see this fight against terrorism to have a long road ahead and one that needs to face more and more challenges, domestic as well as international ones.

Overall, it can be said that both domestic terrorism and international one are essential elements to be taken into account today. However, in order to find a solution to deal with such threats, action must be taken both at a national level, as well as at the global one.
